Lutein (from Latin lutea meaning “yellow”) is a carotenoid found in green leafy vegetable, some fruits and nuts. There is a direct relationship between lutein intake and pigmentation in the eye. Several studies have shown that an increase in macula pigmentation decreases the risk for eye diseases such as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
